SINAI – A barn fire got out of control and spread to a vacant farm house and hay bales on a site northeast of Sinai, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire was reported at 7:02 p.m. Sunday and occurred at 21575 459th Ave., Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Sinai Fire Department and Volga Fire Department responded to the above location for an abandoned structure fire spreading to hay bales. Later, mutual aid was requested from the Brookings Fire Department, Elkton Fire Department, White Fire Department and Bruce Fire Department,” Sebring said.

“It was found someone had been burning an old barn with permission of the property’s owner. The fire spread accidently to the vacant farm house and nearby hay bales. Total damage of the incident is unknown at this time,” Sebring said.
