Bartels, Rystrom, Conrad lead Bobcats at BHS Alumni Qualifier

BROOKINGS – The Bobcats competed against Aberdeen Central, Sioux Falls Lincoln and Madison at Tuesday’s BHS Alumni Qualifier.

Brookings travels to Harrisburg on Friday to face the Tigers in a dual that starts at 4 p.m.

BHS senior Kailee Bartels set the early standard with a state-qualifying time of 15.66 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles as Tayla Dobrenksi (16.63) and Ella Kjelden (16.79) placed third and fourth, respectively, while Hannah Walsh finished seventh in 17.41.

Junior Emily Rystrom won the 200 in 26.79 while Bartels placed sixth in 27.88 seconds and Cherish Stern finished eighth in the 400 in 1:07.64..

Kayla Shoup finished sixth in the 1,600, while the Bobcats swept the 3,200 as Ainsley Powers (11:59.18) took first:, Katie Osbeck (13:48.05) and Ashton Scott (13:36.92) finished second and third.

In the 300 hurdles, Rachel Gannon finished fourth (50.31), as Allie Clark (51.48) and Riley Weisbeck (51.54) placed sixth and seventh, respectively.

In the field events, Johanna Miller (113-1) and Ashley Anderson (109-5) were second and third in the discus while Cynthia Campbell (96-3) and Celia Dobrenski (95-3) placed sixth and seventh.

Dobrenski (32-11.75) and Haley Patrick (32-4) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put as Kat Charging (29-10.75) and Ashley Anderson (29-6.5) ended up seventh and eighth.

Erin Hulberg cleared 8 feet, 9 inches for third in the pole vault as Regan Weisbeck was sixth with a mark of 7-9. Tayla Dobrenski went 4 feet, 8 inches for fourth in the high jump as Gannon (15-1.5), Julie Schniese (14-11.5) and Riley Weisbeck (14-8) placed fourth, fifth and seventh in the long jump.

Gannon added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (32-7) as Sydney Schneider placed seventh in 32-3.5.

The Bobcat girls’ relay teams won the 4x800 (10:32.95) and sprint medley (4:31.94), and then, placed second 4x100 (53.67) and 4x400 (4:18.54). Brookings also finished third in the 4x200 in 1:52.37.

On the boys’ side, Isaac Conrad won the 800-meter run in 2:02.32 as Preston Helmbolt placed second in the 400 in 53.49 seconds as Cody Caraway finished fifth (57.43).

Charlie Wang was fifth in the 3,200 in 10:31.29 while Gabel Goldhorn (16.95) and Koby Bartels (16.97) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles. Bartels added a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles in 46.5 seconds as Caleb Fixsen crossed in 47.10 for eighth.

Sam Lehman cleared 11-3 for third in the pole vault as Ayden Ellis placed seventh (10-3).

In the triple jump, Max Struck led the effort with a fifth-place leap of 37-1.75. Carter Johnson (35-1) and Daniel May (34-11) placed seventh and eighth.

Ange Zouko (18-6.75) and Struck (17-9.25) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the long jump.

Sean Collins (43-1), Gus Miller (41-11.5) and Tucker Christie (41-9) placed sixth through eighth in the shot put while Christie (123-4) and Aaron Campbell (110-5) finished sixth and seventh in the discus.

The boys’ relays placed second in the medley (3:59.18) and  third  in the 4x100 (46.76), 4x200 (1:37.11) and 4x400 (3:48.45).
