Batteries stolen from farm site

ARLINGTON – Batteries were stolen in a burglary near Arlington this week, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The theft was reported at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday and occurred near 456th Avenue and 208th Street in rural Arlington, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said. The theft is believed to have happened between 4:30 p.m. Monday to when it was noticed at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of six Interstate Batteries that were stolen from an abandoned farm site in rural Arlington,” Sebring said. 

“The suspects entered a shed and stole two batteries from lawn mowers, one battery from an older Chevy Blazer, one battery from an older tractor, and two batteries from inside the shop,” he said.

“The suspect or suspects caused damage to the battery cables when they were removed from the vehicles. They also damaged the hood of the Chevy Blazer,” Sebring said. 

“The damage cost is unknown at this time. The cost to replace the batteries is estimated at $335,” he said.
