BROOKINGS – A man suspected of attempted murder in Nebraska is also suspected of stealing a truck in Brookings County Tuesday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office and Brookings Police Department received information that Kevin Haug, 44, may be in the Brookings area, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

Haug was wanted on warrants on suspicion of attempted murder, assault, burglary and other charges in Nebraska.

Court documents accuse Haug of attacking another man with two knives at a Fordyce, Nebraska, residence early Tuesday morning.

“A search for the suspect was conducted in several locations (in Brookings County) by the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department, but the suspect was not located,” Sebring said.

At 3 p.m., a U-Haul truck was reportedly stolen from the 300 block of 35th Street South in Brookings, he said.

The U-Haul truck was located in the Yankton area and a pursuit began with the Yankton Police Department that crossed the South Dakota/Nebraska state line and continued into Nebraska with the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office. Vehicles from the Yankton Police Department and Cedar County Sheriff’s Office were damaged by the stolen suspect vehicle,” Sebring said.
