BROOKINGS – The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Monday incident involving a handgun being pointed at juveniles in Elkton.

According to Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring, the incident occurred at 7:34 p.m. in the 200 block of Second Street. Wielding the weapon was the driver of an early 2000s silver or gray Buick LeSabre, Sebring reported in a news release. The juveniles described the driver as a white male in his 20s wearing a gray shirt.

After pointing the handgun at the juveniles, who were on foot, the driver turned onto Elk Street and then returned and drove by them a second time before departing the area.

The sheriff’s office along with the South Dakota Highway Patrol attempted to locate the vehicle, according to Sebring, but did not find it.

The incident remains under investigation.
