Beresford sweeps BEC track and field titles

VOLGA – Beresford swept the team titles at the Big East Conference Track and Field Meet on Thursday.

Girls

The Watchdogs ran away from the field with 207 points, while Parker (119) was second.

Sioux Valley (77) took third and Flandreau (51) ended up seventh.

The Cossacks’ Lynsey Stevens, who swept the jumps at the Lake Central Conference Meet on Tuesday in De Smet, placed in the top three in each of the events Thursday.

She was runner-up in both the high jump (5 feet) and triple jump (33-10), while adding a third-place showing in the long jump (15-5 3/4).

Baylea Lucas finished third in the 100-meter hurdles (18.1 seconds) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (52.9 seconds).

Nikole Ziegler ended up fourth in the high jump (4-8), fifth in the 100 hurdles (18.6) and long jump (15-1), and sixth in the triple jump (31-11). Cheyanne Kamps was fifth in the 100 (13.5).

The Fliers’ Madeline Hursey, Elizabeth Hursey, Mara Lunday and Hannah Parsley took the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 10:26.7.

Madeline Hursey placed second in the 3,200 (12:32.5) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:49.1). Elizabeth Hursey was fifth in the 800 (2:35.6).

Boys

The Watchdogs racked up 186.5 points as Garretson (97) finished second.

Sioux Valley (83.5) was fourth and Flandreau (56) finished seventh.

The Cossacks had four individuals place second – Brennan Stoltenberg in the discus (130-6), Jake Schneider in the shot put (43-6 1/2), Kelton Vincent in the 3,200 (10:53.2) and Lane VanderWal in the triple jump (40-7 Stoltenberg added a fourth-place showing in the shot put (42-5).

Dalton Hanson and Trevor Olson both cleared 5-6 in the high jump to finish in a tie for third and fifth, respectively. Tyler Schwartz ended up fifth in the 100 in 11.9 seconds.

The Fliers’ Trevor Hahn placed third in the 100, also with a time of 11.9.

Nathan Kneebone’s mark of 36-4 in the triple jump put him in fourth.

Taking fifth were Ben Hobbie in the 1600 (5:10.9), Michael Witte in the 300 hurdles (45.2) and Kyle Johnson in the discus (110-3).
