Beresford takes BEC cross country titles

PARKER – Beresford swept the team titles at the Big East Conference Cross Country Meet on Wednesday at ParMar Golf Course.

The event, originally scheduled for Thursday, was moved up a day due to the impending weather.

Boys

Flandreau’s David Allen won the 5K with a time of 16 minutes, 27.2 seconds.

The Watchdogs totaled 24 team points to take the crown.

The Fliers were second at 27. Baltic (64) edged Sioux Valley (65) for third.

Beresford’s Andrew Atwood was runner-up in 16:42.25 and Garretson’s Preston Bohl finished third with a 16:52.41 clocking.

Flandreau’s Liam Streitz (17:10.62) and Beresford’s Brandon Andrews (17:12.57) crossed in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Colby Gatzke paced the Cossacks with a 17:16.24 clocking, putting him in sixth.

Completing the Watchdogs’ team total, Cameron Wells (17:24.29) was seventh and Matthew Hoffman (17:34.53) 10th.

Rounding out the Fliers’ team tally, Austin Kulm (17:30.77) ended up ninth and Lars Dailey (18:06.41) 13th.

For Sioux Valley, Skylar Schwab (18:15.08) was 16th, Cade Gross (18:54.98) 20th and Brayden Squires (19:31.51) 23rd.

Girls

Beresford finished with 27 team points.

Garretson (32) was second, Flandreau (43) third, McCook Central/Montrose (74) fourth and Sioux Valley (75) fifth.

Baltic’s Ana Wilkison was medalist, finishing the 5K in 18:49.48.

Beresford’s Anna Atwood (19:30.43) and Garretson’s MaKayla Heesch (19:34.85) were second and third, respectively.

Sioux Valley seventh-grader Isabelle Bloker, who won the Lake Central Conference crown on Monday, placed fourth in the BEC meet in 19:53.08.

Flandreau’s Hannah Parsley was fifth with a 19:54.22 clocking.

Lily Klein (20:30.9) was ninth, Reese Ollinger (21:39.89) 18th and Lizzie Pavlis (21:49.79) 19th to round out the Fliers’ team tally.

Completing the Cossacks’ team score, Kendra Hiltunen (23:25.15) finished 27th, Abby Haaland (23:49.09) 29th and Clara Martinez Marti (27:16.61) 32nd.
