Bertil R. “Bert” Brandsrud, 79, of Estelline, died Monday, Aug.14, 2017, under hospice care.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Estelline.

Bertil Rudy Brandsrud was born July 17, 1938, in Estelline, the son of Alfred and Pearl (Biwer) Brandsrud.

He attended country school at Pleasant View No. 28 and graduated from Estelline High School in 1956. He moved to Sioux Falls and worked for Gage Brothers and Norland Concrete. He married Cindy DeWall on March 31, 1962, in Estelline. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in the summer of 1962, where he trained and served as a medic. Upon his discharge, the couple moved to Estelline, where Bert worked at the Red Carpet and took over the family farm. He continued to farm until his health began to fail.

Bert was a member of the Estelline Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance. He served as past commander of the American Legion and was a member of the NRA and Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, crossword puzzles, going to coffee at the C-store and playing cards. His greatest joy was his family and loved seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Wade (Deb) Brandsrud, of Estelline; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harlan Brandsrud of Sioux Falls; and a host of relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 46 years, Cindy.
