Bertram Getzug, age 91, of Brookings, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at the United Living Community in Brookings.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting his family with arrangements.
Bertram “Bert” Getzug was born on May 27, 1930, in St. Paul, MN, the son of Joseph and Anna (Hope) Getzug.
Bert received his education at Webster Grade School in St. Paul, MN, and was a graduate of the John Marshall High School in 1948.
He then attended the University of Minnesota. Bert served in the United States Army from 1948 until 1952, during the Korean Conflict.
In 1957 he married Gloria A. Rottum of Hendricks, MN.
Bert was employed with KBRK Radio in Brookings, SD as a radio announcer from 1955 to 1998.  He was a member of the American Legion and the Brookings Bowling Association.  
He especially enjoyed golfing, bowling and walking,
Bert is survived by his children, Diane Ruth (Jere) Thieman of Twin Falls, ID, Joel L. Getzug of Navarre, FL, David J. Getzug of Houston, TX, and BethAnne M. Bennett of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister Ethel D. Smith of St. Paul, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister (Alice).
In 1970, Bert made the decision to donate his body, upon his death, to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy. He believed in the power of science and knowledge.  His body will be studied there for approximately two years.
At this time no funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones when a memorial is planned.
