AZUSA, Calif. – Senior Peter Bates ended the first day of his decathlon with his personal-best score after five events, claiming three individual personal-best marks.

Bates finished off the first day of the decathlon with three personal-best marks en route to his first-day personal-best score by 46 points. Bates, who last competed in a decathlon in 2017 outdoors, was close to a PR in his first event of the day, missing his 100-meter dash best by 0.05 seconds.
