Betty Gile - Brookings

 Betty Gile, 92, of Brookings, died, Sunday, March 18, 2018, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview. 

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas More Parish. Burial is private in Greenwood Cemetery at Brookings. Eidsness Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. 

Elizabeth Louise was born July 23, 1925, to Elmer and Della (Murphy) Oster in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. 

She and her family moved to Minneapolis, where she attended school and graduated in 1943. In 1944, Betty’s family relocated to Brookings, where her father was a field mechanic for the Ford Implement Company. 

In 1945, Betty met Olin Gile. They were married on June 11, 1946, in Brookings. Olin and Betty had two daughters, Kathy and Judith. 

Betty worked as a dental assistant for 32 years for Dr. Tritle. She also worked as the assistant manager for Shriver’s Department Store and for Sixth Street Floral. Betty was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Holly Berry Craft Club, and the Mizpah Extension Club. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, spending time with her dog (Scooter), and working in her hosta garden. Betty was a member of St. Thomas More Parish. She was an amazing cook, and especially loved holiday gatherings.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy (John) Smith of Holly Tree, Alabama, and Judith Gile of Brookings; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; sister, Joanie (Joe) Bassing of Sioux Falls; brother, Bob (Charolette) Oster of Sioux Falls; brother-in-law, Gale Hart of Sioux Falls and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Olin; and sisters, Sharon and Peggy.
