Betty J. Stroschein, age 87, of Clear Lake, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at the Deuel County Good Samaritan Society in Clear Lake. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, at Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto. Burial will be in the Toronto City Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 – 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto. The Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements. 

Betty Joyce Stroschein was born on Feb. 22, 1932, to Joe and Annie (Hanson) Skarloken on a farm near Estelline.  She attended school in Brookings and Deuel County and graduated from Toronto High School and worked at an electric shop for a short time. 

She was united in marriage to Maynard Stroschein on Sept. 24, 1950, at the Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto.  To this union three sons were born.  Betty worked at home on the farm until 1972 when she began working at 3M Company in Brookings, where she worked for 20 years, retiring in 1991.  Maynard and Betty moved off the farm in 1999 and moved to Clear Lake,.   

Maynard passed away on November 6, 2008.  Betty remained in Clear Lake and entered the Deuel County Good Samaritan Society in November of 2015. Betty passed away there after a long illness on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 22 d,ays. 

She was a member of the Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto.  She enjoyed hosting and attending family celebrations and dancing with Maynard at Tunerville and other area dances.  She was a devoted wife and mother and spent much time cooking and cleaning for them.  She was a great cook.  Betty also spent much time taking care of her disabled mother and doting on grandchildren when the opportunity presented itself.  She also was a member of the extension club and Sons of Norway and Legion Auxiliary.   Betty enjoyed traveling with her family to reunions and for visits.  

She is survived by her three sons:  Allen (Deb) Stroschein, Watertown, Dennis (Diane) Stroschein, Toronto and Warren Stroschein, Clear Lake; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; parents; and two brothers:  Roland and Preston Skarloken.
