BROOKINGS – As the members and staff of the Brookings High School band fulfill practice schedules, exhibition requests, march in parades and perform at home football games, everyday responsibilities and studies are the highest priority.

The BHS band students have learned from their freshmen year forward how to successfully manage their busy schedules. Academic studies and band requirements in addition to family life and jobs are part of the daily life of these dedicated students.

This early exposure to learning to maintain balance has been an invaluable asset to the BHS graduates as they have headed off to the colleges of their choice. Many have chosen to continue the commitment of time and energy and are now marching with their collegiate band.

Eighteen students from the 2018 BHS graduating class are in marching bands.

SDSU’s Pride of the Dakotas has Andy Horst, Matt Olson, Micah Perry, Paul Otterson, William Reynolds, Ben Diersen and Bekah Bonnemann.

The University of Nebraska, Lincoln, has Jenna Knudtson. University of Minnesota marching band was Bella Kappenman’s choice.

The Iowa State Cyclones marching band has Kiana Campbell, Connor Evers, Jack Hansen and Marie Todey as members.

Katie Sutton and Maret Otterson march with the North Dakota State Bison band.
