BROOKINGS – During the South Dakota AAU Wrestling State Tournament held this past weekend, Brookings High School senior Jacob Schoon was honored as the 2019 South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association Class A Wrestler of the Year.

Schoon not only is a standout wrestler on the mat, but also displayed exemplary conduct and professionalism off the mat. He is driven to better himself as a wrestler by putting in extra work to achieve his goals, but also works diligently to make his teammates better.

Schoon completed an undefeated senior season at BHS with his second consecutive state championship, finishing  41-0 at the 182 weight class, a year removed from winning his first SDHSAA state championship at 170 pounds with a 34-1 record.

In 2017, Schoon finished fourth at 170 pounds; placed second at 160 pounds in 2016; and eighth at 138 pounds in 2015.

Schoon finished his wrestling career at Brookings High School with a school record 209 wins.

He is also a two-time state youth wrestling champion.

Schoon was also a member of the Bobcat football and baseball teams in the fall and spring, respectively, and has played summer baseball for many years.

He will be attending South Dakota State University this fall and wrestling for the Jackrabbits.
