ABERDEEN – A 21-9 fourth quarter turned a two-point deficit into a ten-point win for the Brookings girls’ basketball team as they went into Aberdeen Central and picked up a 50-40 road win on Thursday night.

Big fourth quarter nets Brookings road win

ABERDEEN – A 21-9 fourth quarter turned a two-point deficit into a ten-point win for the Brookings girls’ basketball team as they went into Aberdeen Central and picked up a 50-40 road win on Thursday night.

The Bobcats put three players in double figures, led by freshman Logan Smidt with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting including a trio of three-pointers. Smidt also grabbed five rebounds.

Landree Wilson added 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and had four rebounds as well as four steals, while post Ainsley Shelsta tossed in 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and had six rebounds. Shelsta also swatted away five Aberdeen Central shots.

The Golden Eagles were led by Kyra Griese with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Anna Malchow with 10 points.

Kiana Mounga had eight rebounds to go with six points.

Brookings shot 54 percent from the field for the game, attempting just 35 shots and making 19, while Aberdeen Central shot 26 percent (11-of-43).

The Golden Eagles out-rebounded Brookings 30-22 and both teams had similar turnover numbers with Aberdeen Central giving it away 20 times and the Bobcats 19.

Brookings (2-4) hosts Fairmont, Minn. on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the Bobcat boys’ team. Sub-varsity games get underway at 11:30 a.m.
