Bismarck beats Blizzard, 4-3

BROOKINGS – Bismarck got on the scoreboard first and held on for a 4-3 win over the Blizzard on Saturday at Larson Ice Center to complete a weekend sweep in North American Hockey League action.

The win boosts the Bobcats record to 8-5 as they lead the Central Division with 16 points, while Brookings drops to 6-6 with 12 points for a tie for second.

Adam Stacho gave the visitors the early lead as he netted the only goal of the first period with 6:26 left to play.

Jimmy Elser drilled a shot from just inside the blue line off an assist from Parker Revering to tie the game less than seven minutes into the second, but the Bobcats converted on two power-play chances to go up 3-1.

Stacho scored with 8:58 on the clock before Gordon Whalen lit the lamp with 7:11 remaining.

Vince Marino’s goal with 1:36 to play in the period sent the game into the second intermission with Bismarck on top, 3-2, as Elser and Cam Babiak earned the assists.

Noah Bormann tallied an unassisted goal midway through the third period to push Bismarck’s advantage to 4-2, but the Blizzard scored with nine seconds remaining for the final margin when Chase Brand found the back of the net off assists from Doug Larson and Brendan Aird.

Brookings held a 28-24 edge in shots as John Roberts finished with 25 saves for the win in goal. Zachary Borgiel stopped 20 Bobcat shots in the loss.

On Wednesday, the Blizzard head to Austin to face the Bruins at Riverside Arena. The Bruins are fourth in the Central Division with 11 points courtesy of a 4-3-1-2 record.
