Bismarck rallies to beat Blizzard

BROOKINGS – The Blizzard took a 1-0 lead after a period but couldn’t hold on as Bismarck rallied for a 4-1 win in NAHL Central Division play on Saturday night at Larson Ice Center.

John Kalijian netted the puck off assists from Shane Hathaway and Carter Krogman with 5:33 left in the first period as Brookings outshot the Bobcats, 13-8, over the first 20 minutes.

But Bismarck lit the lamp three times in the second to go up 3-1 heading into the second intermission as Austin Jouppi tied the score 50 seconds into the period before Mitchell Walinski’s power-play goal gave the Bobcats the lead with 13:14 to play. Andy Stoneman found the back of the net at the 3:20 mark to make it 3-1.

Jouppi provided for the final margin with his second goal of the game midway through the third period as the Bobcats held a 33-31 edge in shots by the end of the match.

Atticus Kelly gloved 30 saves for the win as George McBey stopped 29 shots in the loss.

Brookings, 3-19-1-1 with eight points, plays host to Aberdeen on Tuesday at LIC. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
