ARLINGTON – A fire did some damage to a rural Arlington home Thursday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The call came in at 9:25 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of 199th Street and 459th Avenue, northwest of Oakwood Lakes State Park, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“The Badger Fire Department, Bruce Fire Department, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks ranger, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential structure fire,” Sebring said.

“The cause is believed to be from a dehumidifier that was in the basement of the home. A chest freezer appeared to be damaged, but at the time of the report no other personal property appeared to be lost,” Sebring said.

“The home did receive some smoke damage and structural damage, but the amount of damage is unknown at this time. No one was injured,” Sebring said.

The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
