Blizzard fall to Wilderness in Game 5

CLOQUET, Minn. – The Brookings Blizzard saw their season come to a close after a 6-3 loss to the MN Wilderness in Game 5 of a Central Division playoff series.

The Blizzard got on the scoreboard first when Cameron Teamor scored off assists from Nicholas Cardelli and Brandon Kruse seven minutes into play.

The Wilderness tied the game up with 5:51 left in the first and then went ahead at the 2:48 mark on a power-play goal.

John Siebenaler answered inside of a minute later off setups by Brenden Stanko and Kruse to send the game into the first intermission tied at 2-2.

Brookings retook the lead less than 90 seconds into the second frame off a goal by Kruse, with the assists going to Cardelli and Stanko, but the home team tied the game at 3-3 midway through and then took the lead for good with 91 seconds left in the frame.

The Wilderness added two goals in the third period – less than four minutes in and with 10:57 to play – for the final margin.

The Blizzard held a 48-37 edge in shots, but Luke Kania earned the win in goal with 45 saves while Josh Boyko stopped 31 shots in the loss.

The Wilderness advance to face the Aberdeen Wings for the Central Division postseason title.
