BROOKINGS – The Blizzard made it two in a row over Austin.
After hammering the Bruins, 7-1, on Wednesday, Brookings skated to a 4-2 Central Division win over the Bruins on Friday night at Larson Ice Center.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first period, but it didn’t take Josh Boyer long to light the lamp in the second as the forward scored less than 90 seconds in on a power-play chance as Doug Larson earned the assist.
Austin converted a power-play opportunity near the 4-minute mark but Jimmy Elser sent the Blizzard into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead when he scored off a Vince Marino setup with 43 seconds left.
Andriy Denyskin pushed the Blizzard lead to two goals as Brookings cashed in on another power play with 3:38 remaining in the game.
Austin’s Evan Cholak scored his second goal with 1:11 left to pull the Bruins back within 3-2, but Vince Marino’s goal with 25 seconds on the clock accounted for the final margin. Boyer and Brendan Aird picked up the assists.
Brookings improved to 8-6 while the Bruins dropped to 4-5-1-2.
The Blizzard and Bruins square off again tonight at LIC, with the puck dropping at 7:05.
