BROOKINGS – The City of Brookings is extending an invitation to all to attend a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the newly renovated Bob Shelden Field from 3:15-5 p.m. Friday, April 16.

The field is located at 530A Elm Ave., Brookings.

Renovations and updates include a complete overhaul of the playing field with a new grass outfield and artificial turf infield, and new dugouts and bullpens for a better player experience. The complex also has a new American Disabilities Act accessible grandstand, press box, and netting system to enhanced spectator sightlines, and a new berm in right field for a unique fan experience. The area also boasts new LED lights with “up” lighting. Bob Shelden Field’s parking lot was also reconstructed with permeable pavers to help with stormwater runoff.

The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce will facilitate the ribbon cutting.

The event is free to the public and will include a 3:30 p.m. ribbon cutting and short grand-opening ceremony at 4:40 p.m. with the Bob Shelden family, Brookings Mayor Keith Corbett, and representatives from Friends of Baseball.

The first game in the new complex between Brookings and Sioux Falls O’Gorman will follow at 5 p.m.
