Bobcat boys’ tennis beats Pierre, Madison

MADISON – The Bobcat tennis team won a pair of close matches on Friday to run its season record to 5-7 overall.

Brookings downed Pierre, 5-4, before rolling past the host Bulldogs, 7-2.

The ‘Cats return to Hillcrest today for a quadrangular against Eastern South Dakota Conference foes Aberdeen Central, Huron and Yankton. Play starts at 10 a.m.

After splitting the singles matches, the Bobcats won 2-of-3 doubles matches to pull out the team win.

At No. 1 singles, Jonah Dobbs downed Jace Wernsmann, 10-6, and Dalton Rittershaus hammered Ryan Warne, 10-2, at No. 2. Dobbs and Rittershaus teamed to edge Wernsmann and Matt Hanson, 10-8, at No. 1 doubles.

Hanson got past Micah Ardry, 11-9, at No. 3 singles, but Dawson Peters returned the favor with a 10-8 win over Phil Adam at No. 4. Ardry and Peters then beat Warne and Adam, 10-6, at No. 2 doubles.

The Governors took the last two singles matches as Grant Judson overpowered Derek Brallier, 10-0, at No. 5 and Luke Leingang shut out Gabel Goldhorn, 10-0, at No. 6. Judson and Spencer Davis then teamed up to beat Brallier and Goldhorn, 10-1, at No. 3 doubles.

Dobbs and Rittershaus capped off an undefeated day as Dobbs blanked Dylan Litz, 10-0, at No. 1 singles and Rittershaus blasted Blake Kennington, 10-2. The Bobcat duo teamed up for a 10-2 win over Tyler Wardner and Kennington at No. 1 doubles.

Ardry won 10-2 over Jerron Dejabet at No. 3 singles while Peters shut out Nick Kessler, 10-0, at No. 4. Ardry and Peters picked up a 10-6 win over Dejabet and Kessler at No. 2 doubles.

Brallier rolled over Wardner, 10-0, at No. 5 doubles, but the Bulldogs earned their only singles win when Seth Fernau topped Goldhorn, 10-4, at No. 6. Fernau and Braden Eimers teamed to beat Brallier and Goldhorn, 10-6, at No. 3 doubles.
