Bobcat freshmen close with defeat of Washington

BROOKINGS – The Bobcat freshmen football team wrapped up its season with a 30-8 win over Sioux Falls Washington.

The Bobcat offense had its best game of the season, racking up over 300 yards of total offense. The Bobcat defense once again put together a great effort forcing five turnovers. The Warriors threatened on the first drive of the game, but the Bobcat defense put up a goal-line stand. On the second play from scrimmage, Owen Schneider took a handoff and dashed 90 yards for the opening touchdown. Breck Hirrshcoff added the two-point conversion.

The Bobcats added two touchdowns in the second quarter to extend the lead to 22-0 at halftime. Both touchdowns were set up by interceptions by the defense. Hirrschoff and Schneider each intercepted a pass. Jacob Kahle connected with Drew Wilber on a 6-yard pass play for a touchdown and Kahle added the two-point conversion. Ethan Houtman added another touchdown right before halftime on a 2-yard run.

Hirrschoff added the only Bobcat score in the second half on a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown. Kahle connected with Houtman on a pass play to add the two-point conversion. The Bobcats led 30-0 after three quarters. Washington had a safety and a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Leading the defensive effort for the Bobcats was Hirrschoff with five tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Houtman added six tackles and Austin Anderson chipped in with five. Kalen Reisetter added four tackles and an interception. Cade Christianson and Nolan Miles added three each. Offensively, Schnieder led the Bobcats with 91 yards rushing. Houtman added 51 rushing yards and 37 receiving yards. Miles contributed 40 yards rushing and Maxwell Engebretson added a catch for 23 yards.

The Bobcats finished the season with a record of 4-3.
