Bobcat gymnastics defeats Huron in season opener

BROOKINGS – The Brookings gymnastics team defeated Huron Monday night in a dual 129.650-112.900.

Junior Tayla Dobrenski won the all-around individual with a score of 33.750. She won the uneven bars, floor exercise and balance beam. Eighth grader Layla Erickson came in second with a score of 32.650.

Brookings had the top-four finishers in the uneven bars. Dobrenski finished in first with a score of 8.1000. Eighth grader Layla Erickson came in second with a score of 7.8500 and sophomore Mischa Janssen finished in third with a score of 7.7000. Senior Sydney Grendler came in fourth with a score of 7.6500.

Dobrenski came in first in the balance beam with a score of 8.5000. Janssen came in second with a score of 8.2000 and sophomore Amber Brockberg finished in fourth with a score of 7.8500.

Dobrenski also won the floor exercise with a score of 8.4500. Brookings had the next three finishers as with Erickson (8.4000), Brockberg (7.8500) and freshman Lexi Norgaard (7.6000) came in second, third and fourth, respectively.

Erickson won the vault with a score of 9.0500. Dobrenski tied for second with a scored 8.7000 and eighth grader Luci Siemonsma tied for fourth with a score of 8.3000.

Brookings will participate in the Lolly Forseth Invite at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Sioux Falls Lincoln.
