SPEARFISH – The Bobcats bounced back from last week’s Eastern South Dakota Conference loss to Mitchell with a 24-0 shutout of Spearfish at Lyle Hare Stadium.

Brookings didn’t get on the scoreboard until the second quarter, but once the ‘Cats broke the scoreless tie, they scored in bunches.

Cole Eidem rambled in from 32 yards out with 5:21 left to play in the half on an inside reverse, and then, the sophomore broke off another run for 31 yards to set up Parker Beers’ 1-yard plunge with 1:43 on the clock.

Justin Devine’s two PAT kicks were a warm up for his 25-yard field goal as time expired in the first half as Brookings led 17-0 at the intermission.

With 7:34 to play in the game, Beers added another 1-yard run for the final margin after Devine’s PAT kick as the Bobcats improved to 2-1 on the season.

Brookings dominated play – picking up 21 first downs to the Spartans’ seven; recovering two of Spearfish’ three fumbles; forcing nine punts; and giving up just one pass reception on nine attempts with two interceptions.

Beers finished with 126 on 22 carries as Eidem added 97 yards on seven rushes. Nick Hardin picked up 14 yards on three carries while Isaac von Fischer had eight yards on four touches.

Hardin completed 11-of-23 pass attempts with von Fischer and Eidem both grabbing five passes, and Wilber one for 25 yards that set up a score.

Jake Vlaminck and Sam Lehman each had an interception.

Brookings plays host to Watertown on Friday in a Homecoming game for the Bobcats. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at DJD Stadium.
