Bobcats go 2-0 at Yankton Triangular

YANKTON – Brookings posted a pair of wins at the Yankton Triangular on Monday, beating the host Bucks 49-27 in an Eastern South Dakota Conference dual and then toppling Sioux Falls Roosevelt 40-36.

The Bobcats won 14 of the 17 contested matches with 11 pins.

Brookings (2-4, 1-2 ESD) is host to Huron in a dual Friday at 7 p.m.

The Bobcats won nine of the 10 contested matches, including seven by fall, to tally the ESD victory.

Brookings was open at 106 and 113 pounds to spot Yankton a 12-0 lead, before winning the next five bouts.

Connor Klinkhammer’s reversal and three-point near fall led to a first-period pin – in 1:32 – against Taten Bahm at 120 pounds.

Nolan Archer defeated Kyler Lillie 3-1 at 126. Lillie grabbed a 1-0 lead with an escape in the second period. Archer pulled even with a third-period escape and then won it with a takedown.

At 132, Tyson Brandt made the most of his varsity debut, picking up a 10-0 major decision over Will Pavlish. The eighth-grader had a takedown in the first period. The score stood at 2-0 until the third when Brandt used another takedown and a pair of three-point near falls to earn bonus points.

Koby Bartels and Jaxon Bowes both moved up a weight class and came away with pins.

Bartels stuck Robert Hahn in 1:58 at 138 pounds.

Bowes won by fall in 1:02 versus Teagen Myers at 145, leaving the team score at 25-12.

The Bobcats were open at 152.

Logan Bowes, Luke Rasmussen and Jacob Schoon followed with wins by fall.

Bowes dropped Dominic Kabela in 1:12 at 160.

At 170, Rasmussen piled up points while pinning Crew Strub in 4:53. He led 7-0 after a period and 14-2 through two, before his third-period takedown led to the pin.

Schoon put Owen Warren on his back in 1:31 at 182 to clinch the dual victory. Brookings led 43-18 at that point.

The Bobcats were open at 195.

Brookings’ Gus Miller had the quickest pin of the dual, sticking Owen Phillips in 45 seconds at 220 pounds.

The Bucks’ Trevor Ellis edged Tucker Christie 4-2 (sudden victory-1) at 285.

The Bobcats prevailed in five of the seven contested bouts, recording four pins.

Brookings was open at 106 and 113 pounds. Klinkhammer won by forfeit at 120.

Archer won by fall in 2:14 over Eli Leonhardt in the 126-pound matchup. He led 2-0 after a period and started down in the second period, before his quick reversal led to the pin.

At 132, the Rough Riders’ Dan Momotic defeated Bartels 12-5.

Jaxon Bowes pinned Kaden Duffy in 1:09 at 138.

The Bobcats were open at 145 and 152, leaving the dual score at 27-18 in favor of Roosevelt.

Logan Bowes was in control throughout the 160-pound match, putting Brody Erickson on his back in 3:53. He led 8-0 at the time of the pin.

Rasmussen followed with a 13-2 major decision over Logan Halma at 170. The match picked up following a scoreless first period as Rasmussen had a takedown and a pair of three-point near falls in the second to move ahead 8-0. He added a reversal and another three-point nearfall in the third.

Schoon won via forfeit at 182 as Brookings moved ahead 34-27. The Bobcats were open at 195.

At 220, Miller sealed the dual win, sticking Zane Wilson in 3:00. He recorded two takedowns in the bout.

The Rough Riders’ Devonte Murphy dropped Tucker Christie 7-4 at 285.
