Bobcats meet state qualifying marks at Bob Coffey Invitational

BROOKINGS – It turned out to be a solid day for the Bobcats at the Bob Coffey Invitational on Tuesday at the BHS Sports Complex as several of the BHS athletes met the provisional qualifying standards for the state meet.

Emily Rystrom led the charge with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash as the sophomore posted a time of 26.82 seconds to best the 27.7-second provisional qualifying mark.

Kailee Bartels – fourth in 15.79 – and Grace Eggebrecht – seventh in 16.37 – bettered the 100-meter hurdles provisional standard of 16.5 seconds, while both Rachel Gannon (49.78) and Riley Weisbeck (49.87) squeaked under the 49.9 provisional time in the 300 hurdles to finish fifth and sixth, respectively.

Gannon’s winning mark of 16 feet, 1/2 inch in the long jump also surpassed the provisional post as Amanda Schulte threw the discus 113 feet, 4 inches to finish third in the discus and better the 108-9 provisional qualifier. Schulte also put the shot 34-6 to place third.

Other top finishes for the Bobcat girls included Josie Bono’s first-place time of 12:58.77 in the 3,200;  Regan Weisbeck and Erin Hulberg placing second and third in the pole vault with marks of 8-6 and Kayla Shoup’s fifth-place showing in the 800 in 2 minutes, 33.01 seconds.

Gannon also placed second in the triple jump in 33-1.5, followed by Bartels (31-1.25) and Emma Hardin (31-8.25), in fourth and sixth.

Hardin went 15-2.5 to tie for fourth in the long jump while Riley Weisbeck posted a seventh-place mark of 14-11.75.

In the discus, Ashley Anderson tossed the disc 108-4 to place fourth and Cythinia Campbell finished eighth with a 95-2 effort.

Regan Weisbeck (8-6) and Erin Hulberg (8-6) placed second and third, respectively, in the high jump and Eggebrecht cleared 4-8 in the high jump for seventh.

On the boys’ side, Dillon Jensen’s throw of 144-7 in the discus was good for third and surpassed the automatic qualifying mark of 143-3. He also placed third in the shot with a put of 43-5.

Mason Cranford met the provisional standard in the 800 with a time of 2:04.96 as he placed sixth, while Cody Caraway was eighth in 2:17.15.

Tucker Christie finished fifth in the discus (121-0) and seventh in the shot (40-10.5) as Sean Collins placed seventh in the discus (117-8) and Gus Miller went 40-6 for eighth in the shot.

On Friday, Brookings competes in both the Sioux Falls O’Gorman meet, along with the Dakota Relays at Howard Wood Field.
