HURON – The Bobcat cheer squad performed its best routine of the season on Tuesday at the Huron Invitational.

Unfortunately, deductions caused Brookings to fall to seventh place with 206.5 points as Huron won its own invite with 223.5 points.

Harrisburg placed second with 221.5 points, followed by Watertown (216), Sioux Falls Washington (215), Brandon Valley (212) and Aberdeen Central (207.5).

“The team performed very well tonight – best showing of the season,” said Bobcat head cheer coach Amy Hemmer. “They would have won the invite if not for the music player not working on our first attempt to start the music – due to the music issue, the judges gave us a 20-point deduction for time infraction, which took us from first place to seventh place.

“Nights like this are incredibly frustrating for us – the team deserved a win, but unfortunately did not get that due to circumstances out of our control. (It’s) very unfortunate for them – they worked hard and deserved the win.”

The Bobcat dance squad finished 12th with an average of 199.83 points as Washington won the competition with 282 points.

Brandon Valley placed second with 261.17 points, followed by Harrisburg (249.83), Huron (247) and Yankton (243).

Brookings scored 198.5 points in the Hip Hop category for seventh; 211 points in Pom for eighth; and 190 points in Kick for eighth.

Up next for the Bobcats is the Roosevelt Invitational at the Sanford Pentagon on Sept. 30. Competition begins at 11 a.m.
