Bobcats start fast, defeat Patriots 48-6

BOX ELDER – Josh Buri scored three touchdowns as the Bobcats beat Douglas 48-6 Friday night at Dave Broadie Field, improving their record to 5-0.

The senior picked up 91 yards on six rushes – a 15.2 average.

The score was 41-0 at halftime.

“We challenged them that we really wanted to come out and make a statement early and be aggressive and set the tone – and the boys did that right off the bat,” said BHS coach Brady Clark. “We didn’t stop after that.

“We really played well, communicated well and executed well. Yeah, it was just a solid game for us.

“I thought we took another step improving this week.”

Hunter Gray added 31 rushing yards on five attempts and scored twice. He had a kickoff return for a TD called back by a penalty.

Max Struck had a scoop-and-score.

Keegan Fields and Cole McKeown both picked up 31 yards on three rushes.

Brookings ran the ball 23 times for 201 yards – 8.7 average.

Jaxon Bowes was 3-of-6 for 62 yards through the air, connecting with John Noordsy for a touchdown. Noordsy had 49 yards on a pair of receptions.

The Patriots dropped to 1-4.

Brookings plays at Mitchell (3-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Kernels fell 30-24 to Yankton in overtime in Week 5.
