Bobcats sweep Mitchell

BROOKINGS – Two solid pitching performances led the Bobcats to a sweep over Mitchell on Thursday at South Side Park.

Britta Kratz gave up just three hits and struck out two in the opener as Brookings beat the Kernels, 9-2.

In the nightcap, Emma Hardin allowed four hits and struck out seven as the ‘Cats scored six first-inning runs on the way to an 11-3 victory.

The Bobcats evened their record at 4-4 and head to Sioux Falls to face Lincoln on Tuesday before playing host to Watertown on Thursday.

Trailing 1-0, the Bobcats batted around in the third and plated seven runs to take control.

The Kernels got one run back in the bottom of the frame before the ‘Cats tacked on an insurance run in both the fourth and fifth for the final margin.

Peyton Evans went 3-for-4 from the plate and scored twice to lead the Brookings offense as Kratz and Riley Weisbeck added two hits apiece and Sydney Grendler collected the other hit.

The ‘Cats stayed hot in Game 2, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first as Evans hit a three-run homer.

Brookings added two runs in both the second and third frames and then finalized the score with a single run in the fourth as the ‘Cats pounded out 14 hits.

Evans finished with three more hits while Allysen Zerfas, Kratz, Hardin and Brooklyn Roberts all chipped in with two hits apiece.

Delaney La Framboise, Sydney Grendler and Jadyn Runge each added one base hit.
