Bobcats take 2nd at Mitchell Invitational

MITCHELL – Deuel’s Rachel Blue won the all-around to help lead the Cardinals to the Jill McCormick Invite team title on Friday in Mitchell, while the Bobcats placed second.

Deuel totaled 139.525 points while Brookings finished with 137.475, as Rachel Gannon placed third in the all-around with 34.725 points. Blue notched 36.725 points as Huron’s Erica Zell was second with 35.524.

Sophie Johnson of Estelline/Hendricks placed fourth in the all-around with a 34.475 as the Redhawks finished fourth with 132.525 points.

Aberdeen Central’s Brooke Malsom won the vault with a 9.275, followed by Zell with a 9.125. Brookings’ Sydney Grendler placed fourth with an 8.975 as the Redhawks’ Johnson finished fifth (8.925).

Blue won the bars (9.400) while the Bobcats’ Lily Siemonsma took third (8.650) and Cydne Munson tied Zell for fourth with an 8.550.

Blue also took honors on the beam with a 9.425 as Maci Law of Brookings tied for sixth with an 8.800.

The Bobcats’ Rachel Gannon edged Johnson – 9.375-9.275 – for first on the floor, while Law tied for sixth with an 8.950.

Brookings travels to Hendricks on Monday to face the Redhawks in a dual that begins at 6:30 p.m.
