MITCHELL – The Bobcats won eight of the 13 matches wrestled to post a 42-24 win over Mitchell in an Eastern South Dakota Conference dual on Thursday night.

After Mitchell’s Kyler Bauder won by fall in 3 minutes, 32 seconds over Connor Klinkhammer at 106 pounds to spot the Kernels a quick 6-0 advantage, Brookings won three straight matches to take the lead.

Jason Nixon pinned Blake Stange in 1:47 at 113 to tie the match at 6-6, and then Carson Klinkhammer needed just 45 seconds to pin Colby Gillen at 120 for a 12-6 lead.

Sam Lehman made it 15-6 with a 3-1 sudden victory defeat of Logan Sparks at 126, but the Kernels got six points back when Cole Gehrke won by fall in 3:03 over Cade McKeown at 132.

Sutton Carpenter won by fall in 1:32 over Jacob Montis at 138 pounds as the Kernels retook the team lead, 18-15.

But then the ‘Cats took control with five straight wins – two by fall and three decisions – to retake and build their lead to 36-18.

Justin Devine started the run with a win by fall in 3:47 over Tim Morgan at 145 and Logan Hadley beat Carter Max, 7-4, at 182 to cap the run.

At 152, Kesmond Willert defeated Briggs Havlik, 3-2; Tate Coon posted a 6-4 decision over Kyle Foote at 160; and Jacob Schoon returned to the lineup at 170 after an illness to pin Cade Carpenter in 3:34.

Mitchell won the next two matches as Carson Max defeat- ed Cole Eidem, 5-1, at 195 before Zeb Parsons edged Gus Miller, 6-4, at 220 to get the Kernels within 36-24, but Eddie Miller won by forfeit at 285 for the Bobcats for the 42- 24 final.

The Bobcats travel to Hawarden, Iowa, on Saturday to compete in the West Sioux Invitational.
