Bobcats take two from Bucks

YANKTON – The Bobcat baseball team opened the season with a sweep of the Bucks on Thursday afternoon at Riverside Park, winning the opener 7-6 in nine innings and then posting a 10-1 victory.

Brookings plays Roosevelt in a doubleheader Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Sioux Falls.

Game 1

 Brookings 7, Yankton 6

Cole Mahlum scored on an error in the top of the ninth for the go-ahead run.

Jackson Krogman, who got the start on the mound, went 3-for-5 with three runs scored at the plate.

Jamison Honkomp doubled, singled and drove in a run. Jake Ammann totaled two RBIs and Mahlum and Kyle Bauer both added one.

Game 2

 Brookings 10, Yankton 1

Max Kjelden doubled and drove in a pair.

Krogman (two hits), Henry Hammrich, Ammann, Mahlum and Ashton Witte added RBIs.

Brookings pulled away from a 2-1 advantage with five runs in the fifth.

Bauer gave up one run – unearned – on three hits with nine strikeouts in a complete-game performance.
