BROOKINGS – Brookings placed in a tie for ninth place at its home invitational held Monday at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings.

Watertown claimed the team title, firing a 298 to post a one-shot victory over Harrisburg.

Sioux Falls Lincoln scored 302 to take third place.

Individually, the Arrows’ Jake Olson was the only golfer under par, carding a three-under 67 for medalist honors, winning by four strokes over Lincoln’s Bennett Geraets and Huron’s Landon Roberts who fired one-over 71’s to tie for second.

Brookings’ Cale Jones shot a 79 as the low round for the Bobcats to finish in a tie for 23rd, while Kade Brecher’s 84 was good enough for a tie for 48th.

Dylan VandeKop and Jack Even shot 85 for Brookings, tying for 52nd.

Head coach Andy Lee praised the effort of his team, and for hitting goals they set prior to today’s invitational.

“Overall, we played pretty well. I was hoping for some better scores since we played at one of our home courses and we hit that goal,” Lee said. "As a team we shot 333 which was the best these guys have done so far this season.”

The Bobcats hope to be in the mix more and more as the season progresses, and after their results Monday, it is another achievable goal.

“Shooting this low without all six guys playing their best proves that if we can come together and put up high quality scores one through six we have a great opportunity to be in the mix at ESD coming up in the next couple of weeks,” Lee added.

Brookings heads to Mitchell this Saturday for the Mitchell Invitational. Action gets underway at Lakeview Municipal Golf Course at 10:30 a.m.
