BROOKINGS – The Bobcats defeated Huron 135.3-122.65 in a season-opening gymnastics dual Monday night at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.
The Tigers’ Erica Zell had the top all-around score, posting a 35.5. Brookings eighth-grader Rachel Gannon posted a 35.15 and junior Maci Law added a 33.25. Freshman Lily Siemonsma was fourth at 32.55 and junior Cydne Munson (32.05) tallied a 32.05.
Gannon and Zell occupied the top two spots in all four events.
Gannon won the beam with an 8.85, as Zell (8.7) was second and Law (8.5) third.
Gannon was also tops on the bars with a score of 8.45. Zell and Bobcat senior Marah Dobrenski tied for second at 8.3.
Zell (9.4) edged Gannon (9.3) in the floor exercise. Zell came through in her final event of the night, the vault, scoring a 9.1 to win the event and claim the all-around championship. Gannon (8.55) was second and Munson (8.5) third.
Brookings competes in the Lolly Forseth Invitational on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sioux Falls Lincoln.
