Bobcats win dual against Huron

HURON – The Bobcat gymnastic squad got its season off to a solid start on Tuesday in a dual against the Tigers as Brookings claimed five of the top six spots in the all-around competition in defeating Huron, 136.650-126.750.

Rachel Gannon took the all-around title with 34.650 points as the freshman placed second in both the uneven bars (8.650) and floor exercise (9.350); third on the vault (8.950) and seventh on the balance beam (7.700).

Lily Siemonsma placed second in the all-around with a 34.350 as the sophomore won the bars (8.750); placed third in both the beam (8.100) and floor (8.850); and finished seventh on the vault (8.650).

Maci Law finished fourth in the all-around with a 33.300 as the senior won the beam (8.450); placed fourth on the floor (8.650); took seventh on the bars (7.800); and scored an 8.400 for 11th on the vault.

Sierra Stevens was fifth in the all-around with a 32.650 as the sophomore placed fourth on the vault (8.800) and beam (8.050); finished fifth on the floor (8.500); and took eighth on the bars (7.300).

Sydney Grendler took sixth in the all-around with a 32.350 as the freshman placed fifth on the bars (8.050); was seventh on the floor (8.350); tied for eighth on the vault (8.600); and took ninth on the beam (7.350).

Other top-10 finishes in the individual events included senior Cydne Munson’s third-place finish on the bars (8.300) and ninth-place score of 7.650 on the floor.

Eighth-grader Tayla Dobrenski placed fifth on the vault (8.750) and sixth on both the bars (7.850) and beam (7.750).

Junior Carissa Witt placed sixth on the vault (8.700) and 10th on the beam (7.250).

Tiger junior Erica Zell won the floor exercise with a 9.600 on the way to a third-place finish in the all-around (34.250).

Huron junior Kassie Decker took the vault with a 9.050.

On Saturday, the Bobcats travel to Sioux Falls to compete in the Washington Invitational. Competition starts at 11 a.m.
