ARLINGTON – Authorities have found the body of a missing duck hunter in eastern South Dakota, three months after his boat capsized.
Brookings County Emergency Manager Robert Hill confirms the body of 28-year-old Thomas Hill was recovered Saturday afternoon.
“Around 3:41 p.m., a Brookings County resident was flying in a privately owned helicopter over Brush Lake, near Arlington,” Robert Hill reported. “A body was located from the air, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Department Game Fish & Parks, Arlington Fire Department and Arlington Ambulance Department responded.”
The body was recovered from Brush Lake and transferred to Rude’s Funeral Home at approximately 5:54 p.m.
Thomas Hill was duck hunting with his brother, 23-year-old Matthew Hill of Volga, when their boat capsized on Dec. 5. Matthew Hill's body was recovered that day.
Officials had been searching for Thomas Hill's body ever since.
“The Hill and Jennen families have requested that they be allowed to mourn in private at this time. They will release a statement of their own at a later date,” Robert Hill said. “They did want to thank everyone for their prayers and also all of the individuals who have assisted in the recovery of their son, brother, fiancé and father, Thomas Hill.”
