Bombers Black fall to Harrisburg, West Fargo

HARRISBURG – The Bombers Black dropped a pair of games Saturday, falling 16-6 in six innings to the host Tigers and 11-0 in five innings to West Fargo.

Brookings (24-6) plays host to the Yankton Lakers in a doubleheader today at 4 p.m. at Mickelson Field.

Carter Barenfuss hit for the cycle while driving in seven runs as the Tigers picked up the victory.

He went 4-for-4 and scored three times.

Brookings led 3-0 after an inning, before Harrisburg moved on top 5-3 through three.

The Bombers Black retook the lead at 6-5 in the top of the fourth; however, the Tigers scored six runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Barenfuss’ grand slam that made it 11-6.

Barenfuss capped his big day with a walkoff three-run triple with one away in the sixth.

Barenfuss doubled with one out in the third and singled with two away in the first.

Six of the Tigers’ 13 hits went for extra bases.

Brookings’ Talon Richter was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Ashton Witte had a two-run triple and Jake Ammann tallied an RBI double.

Trey Svennes, Caden Krogman and Ethan Molengraf added a hit apiece.

Svennes took the loss on the mound in relief.

Peyton Jantzi and Jordan Burchill combined on a three-hit shutout and the Rattler offense totaled 12 hits.

Jantzi allowed one hit in four innings, striking out three batters and walking one.

Burchill worked around a pair of singles in the fifth, striking out one batter to preserve the shutout. He also went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles at the plate.

West Fargo scored two runs in both the second and third frames, and then put up a five-spot in the fourth. The Rattlers ended the game with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Grant Warkenthien was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Jaden Grefsrud went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. James Hagen finished 1-for-2 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

Jake Ammann, Talon Richter and Ethan Molengraf each singled for the Bombers Black.

Ammann was the losing pitcher.
