Bombers Black split with S.F. East on Tuesday at Mickelson

The Bombers Black won Game 2 12-7 in six innings to earn a split.

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Black and Sioux Falls East split a youth baseball doubleheader Tuesday at Mickelson Field.

The guests won 16-1 in Game 1 and the hosts took Game 2 by a 12-7 margin. Both contests ended after six innings.

Brookings (7-5) returns to action in the Cubby’s Sports Bar & Grill Classic on Friday, facing Sioux Falls West at 9 a.m. and the Sioux Falls Cyclones Blue at 6 p.m.

Game 1

• Sioux Falls East 16, Brookings 1 (6 inn.)

The visitors broke open a 3-1 game with 13 runs in the top of the sixth. Gage Sharping and Ryan Husman were both credited with three RBIs. Robert Hutchinson, Seth Kippes and Tristan Fitzsimmons added a pair of RBIs apiece.

Alex Strawn picked up the pitching win, surrendering one run on three hits with five strikeouts and a walk in five innings.

Brookings’ Justin Cofell, who scored the run, and Trenton Pederson both doubled. Nathan Lease singled.

Matt Nordmeyer took the loss after allowing seven runs – five earned – on nine hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Game 2

 Brookings 12, Sioux Falls East 7 (6 inn.)

The Bombers Black scored three runs in the third inning, four in the fourth and five in the fifth.

Lease finished 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and four RBIs.

Cofell and Jaxton Eck both singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Parker Winghart (double), Zach Struck and Rocklyn Dauphinais each contributed two hits and an RBI. Pederson doubled and singled. Nordmeyer chipped in one RBI.

Struck earned the win after allowing five runs – four earned – on eight hits with one strikeout and a walk in 4 2/3 innings. Tyson Brandt tossed the final 1 1/3, surrendering two runs on three hits with a strikeout.

For East, Hutchinson drove in a trio of runs and Lincoln Vasgaard went 3-for-4.
