RENNER – The Bombers Black posted a pair of one-run victories over Renner on Thursday, winning by the scores of 9-8 and 13-12 in eight innings.

Brookings (25-3) heads to Harrisburg on Saturday to take on the host Tigers at 10 a.m. and West Fargo at 2:30 p.m.

Game 1

 Brookings 9, Renner 8

The Bombers Black took the lead for good – 7-6 – with one run in the fifth frame and added two in the seventh, before holding off the hosts in the bottom of the inning.

Josh Devine’s groundout plated Talon Richter, who was hit by a pitch, to make it 7-6 in the sixth.

Talon Richter, who went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, had an RBI double and Sam Hardin added an RBI single in the seventh to push the margin to 9-6.

Devine totaled two RBIs, adding a run-scoring triple in the third inning. Ashton Witte singled and drove in a pair of runs. Trey Svennes doubled.

Brookings led 4-0 after an inning but Renner pulled even in the second. The Bombers Black were up 5-4 through three, but the game was again tied – 5-5 – at the end of four.

Devine earned the pitching win in relief, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks in four innings. Richter, the starter, surrendered four runs – three earned – on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in three innings of action.

The Bombers Black recorded four double plays on defense.

Game 2

Caden Krogman’s sacrifice fly plated Isaac Norgaard for the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth as the Bombers Black completed the sweep.

Norgaard singled to lead off the eighth, stole second and moved to third on a groundout before Krogman lifted a 1-0 pitch to center for the sacrifice fly.

Brookings put up eight runs in the opening frame and was ahead 9-1 through two innings. Renner rallied after that, eventually pulling even at 12-12 at the end of six.

Jake Ammann went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs.

Ashton Witte was also 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Krogman ended up 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Lincoln Hardin (one hit) added two RBIs and Sam Hardin tallied one. Kaden Jewett and Ethan Molengraf both contributed a hit.

Krogman, the last of three Brookings pitchers, earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and struck out a batter.
