Bombers Black sweep Watertown Black Sox

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Black racked up 31 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Watertown Black Sox on Monday at Mickelson Field, winning by the scores of 14-2 and 17-7.

Both games ended after five innings.

Brookings (22-4) plays a doubleheader at Renner on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Game 1

 Brookings 14, Watertown 2 (5 inn.)

Jake Ammann tossed a complete game and the Bombers Black scored early and often in the victory.

Brookings put up five runs in the first, seven in the second and two in the third to grab a 14-1 advantage.

Ammann gave up two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Ashton Witte highlighted the big second frame with a three-run double. He scored three times in the game.

Ethan Molengraf also doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Lincoln Hardin added two RBIs, while Sam Hardin, Talon Richter and Kaden Jewett each contributed one. Isaac Norgaard doubled, with Ammann, Lincoln Hardin and Sam Hardin each adding a single. Trey Svennes scored three runs.

The Bombers Black turned a pair of double plays.

Game 2

• Brookings 17, Watertown 7 (5 inn.)

Seven of the Bombers Black’s 13 hits were doubles as Brookings completed the sweep.

The home team scored two runs in the first inning and five in the second, before putting up a seven-spot in the third to move ahead 14-1.

Lincoln Hardin finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Jake Ammann, who doubled and scored four times, and Sam Hardin both ended up 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Trey Svennes was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Ashton Witte also went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Isaac Norgaard (one RBI) and Kaden Jewett both added a two-bagger. Talon Richter had the team’s other RBI.

Svennes pitched 3 2/3 innings to pick up the win, giving up six runs – four earned – on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
