Bombers Black sweep Watertown Black Sox, 28-18 and 9-7

WATERTOWN – The Bombers Black swept the host Black Sox, winning 28-18 and 9-7 in five innings.

Brookings (12-6) is host to Huron on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. twinbill.

Game 1

 Brookings 28, Watertown 18

The Bombers Black totaled 13 hits and 21 free passes, including 12 walks.

Trailing 8-2, Brookings put up six runs in the fourth and eight in the fifth to move ahead 16-11. Watertown cut the deficit to 16-15 at the end of six, before the Bombers Black exploded for 12 runs in the seventh.

Breck Hirrschoff went 3-for-4 with two doubles, seven RBIs and five runs scored.

Austin Clark had three hits and two RBIs. Owen Schneider doubled twice and drove in four. Jack Merritt tallied two doubles and a pair of RBIs. Nolan Miles doubled, singled, drove in a pair of scored four times. Addison Ronning had a hit and two RBIs, with David Brink adding one RBI.

Ronning pitched four innings in relief to earn the win.

Game 2

The Bombers Black scored four times in the fifth to polish off the sweep.

Merritt was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Hirrschoff went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer and scored three times.

Sam Johnson ended up 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Tate Helmolt and Miles both logged a hit and an RBI. Schneider doubled.

Griffen Bartels earned the win after throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. He gave up three hits and struck out a couple. Miles, the starter, surrendered seven runs on five hits and five walks with three strikeouts in 3 1/3.
