Bombers Black take two on the road against Watertown

WATERTOWN – The Bombers Black put up 28 runs en route to a Class A youth baseball sweep of the Black Sox on Wednesday at Watertown Stadium.

Brookings won the opener, 17-7, in five innings before overcoming a 5-3 deficit with an 11-5 win in the nightcap.

Black takes on Tri-Valley in the opening game of the 14U Cubby’s Tournament on Friday at Bob Shelden Field.

Game 1

 Brookings 17, Watertown 7

After giving up a single run in the bottom of the first, the Bombers responded with seven in their half of the second; added four in the second and then put the game away with six in the fifth to end the game early via the run rule.

Brookings pounded out 21 hits, including seven for extra bases, in its five at bats as Jake Ammann drove in five runs with a pair of doubles and a single.

Talon Richter also cracked two doubles and a single to drive in two, while Payton Theodosopolous and Caden Krogman plated two and one runs, respectively, with three hits apiece.

Trey Svennes finished with two hits and three RBIs; Ashton Witte had two hits and a run batted in; and Sam Hardin singled and doubled. Kaden Jewett doubled and drove in one while Josh Devine hit a two-run home run.

Richter picked up the win on the mound after giving up five runs – three earned – on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Svennes finished up and gave up two earned runs on four hits and three walks with a pair of Ks.

Game 2

 Brookings 11, Watertown 5

Trailing 5-3 heading into the third, the Bombers tied the game with two in the top of the frame and then scored six more runs over the next three innings to complete the sweep.

Ammann stayed hot with two hits and two RBIs while Isac Norgaard doubled and drove in three runs.

Hardin had a pair of singles and two runs batted in as Svennes also had two hits and two runs scored.

Caden Krogman gave up five earned runs in three innings of work on nine hits to earn the win on the mound while Theodosopoulos earned the save after giving up two hits and two walks with one strikeout over the final three innings.
