Bombers Gray fall twice

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Gray dropped a doubleheader to Sioux Falls Central on Tuesday at Mickelson Field – falling 13-2 in the opener and 15-3 in the nightcap.

Gray travels to Brandon today for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.

Gray hung with Sioux Falls Central through three innings – 4-2 – before the visitors put up a nine-spot in the fourth on the way to a 13-2 win.

Isac Norgaard singled to lead off the bottom of the second; advanced to second on Ethan Molengraaf’s ground out; stole third; and then, scored on Gavin Fixsen’s single as Brookings led 1-0 after two complete.

Central took the lead with four runs in the top of the third before Kejii Numata took one for the team to lead off the third and Braden Clifford stroked a two-out RBI double to pull Gray within 4-2 through three.

Central came back with nine runs in the top of the fourth to put the game away.

Aidan Stewart suffered the loss on the mound as he gave up six runs on two hits and five walks to go along with three strikeouts.

Molengraaf and Fixsen combined to get Gray out of the fourth inning as Molengraaf allowed seven runs – two earned – on no hits and five walks with a strikeout. Fixsen gave up both a pair of hits and walks, but no runner scored.

Central stayed hot in Game 2, scoring three in the first and then six in both the second and third frames to cruise to the win.

Gray got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when Clifford singled; stole second and third; and then scored on Kejii Numata’s ground out.

In the bottom of the third, Brayton Mack drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a ground out. Jesse Roberts walked and both runners moved up three bases when Norgaard’s grounder to the shortstop was misplayed – allowing Mack to score and Roberts to reach third.

David Fenske plated Roberts with a single to right field.

Norgaard was saddled with the loss as he allowed seven runs on six walks with two strikeouts in one full inning of work.

Clifford threw an inning of relief and gave up a run on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts before Mack closed out the game by allowing six runs – two earned – on two hits and three walks with two Ks.
