Bombers Gray fall twice to Sioux Falls East 13U Purple


SIOUX FALLS – Sioux Falls East 13U Purple swept the Bombers Gray in a youth baseball doubleheader Tuesday by the scores of 12-11 and 8-4 in four innings.

Brookings (4-26) plays host to the Brandon Valley 13s/14s Red in a twinbill Thursday at 4 p.m.

 

Game 1

• Sioux Falls East 12, Brookings 11

The Bombers Gray scored three runs in the top of the seventh to move ahead 11-9, but Sioux Falls East countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to pull out the win.

Brookings’ Keiji Numata finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Matthew Weelborg, who also scored three times, and Braden Clifford contributed two hits apiece.

Aidan Stewart singled and drove in a run. Gavin Klinkhammer added an RBI.

Magnus Nelson had the team’s other hit.

Gavin Fixsen took the loss after giving up three runs – two earned – on four hits. Stewart, the starter, allowed nine runs – four earned – on five hits and five walks with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Game 2

• Sioux Falls East 8, Brookings 4 (4 inn.)

The hosts overcame an early 4-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second and five in the fifth.

Joseph Holy, Brayton Mack, David Fenske and Clifford each had an RBI for the Bombers Gray.

Brookings drew nine walks, including two apiece by Weelborg and Holy.

Mack gave up seven runs – three earned – on four hits and six walks with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings in a losing cause.
