SIOUX FALLS – The Bombers Gray went 1-1 Sunday to finish second in the Bronze Bracket during The Dakota Classic - 13/14U Division at Harmodon.

Bombers Gray go 1-3 at Dakota Classic

SIOUX FALLS – The Bombers Gray went 1-1 Sunday to finish second in the Bronze Bracket during The Dakota Classic - 13/14U Division at Harmodon.

Huron topped Brookings 7-6 in the Bronze Bracket final. The Bombers Gray defeated Brandon Valley 8-0 in five innings in the semifinals.

Brookings went 0-2 in pool play Saturday, falling 12-9 in six innings to Sioux Falls West and 15-0 in three innings to the JCC Huskies.

Brookings (3-8) has a doubleheader at Brandon Valley on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Bombers Gray scored one run in the second inning, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to open up a 6-1 lead; however, Huron rallied with two runs in the top of the sixth and four in the seventh to move ahead.

Braden Clifford went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Dillon Scheeley had an RBI double. Gavin Klinkhammer recorded the team’s other RBI.

Gavin Fixsen, Klinkhammer, Max Hoppe and Quinn Miller eached scored once.

Clifford, the starter, gave up four runs – one earned – on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Klinkhammer took the loss, allowing three runs – none earned – on two hits with a strikeout and a walk over the final two-thirds.

Semifinals

 Brookings 8, Brandon Valley 0 (5 inn.)

Gavin Fixsen tossed a two-hitter, and Gavin Klinkhammer and Max Hoppe both drove in a pair of runs as the Bombers Gray opened bracket play with a shutout victory.

Fixsen struck out six batters and walked three.

Brookings scored four runs in the first inning and then doubled its lead in the fourth frame.

Dillon Scheeley went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Fixsen also scored twice.

Fixsen and Logan Stotz both added an RBI. Fixsen, Klinkhammer and Hoppe each tallied a hit.

Pool Play

 Sioux Falls West 12, Brookings 9 (6 inn.)

Sioux Falls West scored four runs in the top of the second inning and five in the third to open up a 9-1 advantage. Brookings pulled within 10-7 through three. West scored two runs in the fifth and the Bombers Gray added a pair of in the sixth.

Brookings’ Braden Clifford went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Gavin Klinkhammer (RBI) and Gavin Fixsen (two runs) both tallied a pair of hits. Dillon Scheeley drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Magnus Nelson also had two runs.

 JCC Huskies 15, Brookings 0 (3 inn.)

The Huskies put up one run in the first inning, eight in the second and six in the third.

Gavin Fixsen, Logan Stotz, Dillon Scheeley and Blake Wallenberg each had a hit for the Bombers Gray.

Just one of JCC’s 15 runs was earned.
