BRANDON – The Bombers Maroon split a youth baseball doubleheader with Brandon Valley on Tuesday, dropping the opener 8-6 in six innings and then winning the nightcap 16-1 in four innings.

Bombers Maroon split with Brandon Valley on Tuesday

BRANDON – The Bombers Maroon split a youth baseball doubleheader with Brandon Valley on Tuesday, dropping the opener 8-6 in six innings and then winning the nightcap 16-1 in four innings.

Brookings (23-7) is host to Yankton for a twinbill today at noon.

Game 1

 Brandon Valley 8, Brookings 6 (6 inn.)

The Lynx built an 8-2 lead after two innings and held off the Bombers Black.

Gabe Anthony (three RBIs), Austin Brown (two RBIs), Josh Olthoff (one RBI) and Holdyn Sheppard each had two hits in the win.

Jack Riley allowed five runs – two earned – on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts in five innings.

For Brookings, Jack Merritt doubled and Austin Clark and Griffen Bartels singled. Breck Hirrschoff drove in a run.

David Brink took the loss after surrendering eight runs – four earned – on eight hits and three walks with a strikeout in three innings.

Game 2

 Brookings 16, Brandon Valley 1 (4 inn.)

The Bombers Maroon scored one run in the first inning, six in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth.

Nolan Miles went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Merritt was 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and four runs.

Hirrschoff finished 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Addison Ronning drove in a pair of runs and Cameron Girard added two hits and an RBI. Will Bauer doubled. Tate Helmbolt had an RBI.

Brink (RBI), Clark and Bartels had the team’s other hits.

Bartels earned the win after giving up one run – unearned – on two hits and five walks with a pair of strikeouts in three innings.

Helmbolt pitched a scoreless fourth.
