Bombers Maroon sweep Watertown Grey Sox

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Maroon swept a doubleheader from the Watertown Grey Sox on Tuesday at Mickelson Field, winning 5-4 and 10-4.

Brookings (13-6) plays host to the Renner 13s in a doubleheader Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Game 1

 Brookings 5, Watertown 4

Zach Struck scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Bombers Maroon pulled out the win.

Struck drew a one-out walk and stole second. Jaxton Eck followed with a single to put runners on the corners, and then stole second.

Tyson Brandt grounded out to shortstop, as Struck sprinted home on the play to make it 5-4.

Carter Wright’s two-run double in the first inning put Brookings ahead 3-0.

Brookings led 4-1 through two, before Watertown pulled even at 4-all in the third.

Justin Cofell went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tyson Brandt drove in a run, while Nathan Lease and Jaxton Eck both added a hit. 

Davin Carlson pitched two hitless frames to pick up the win, striking out one batter and walking another. Struck, the starter, allowed four runs – three earned – on 10 hits and a walk in five innings of action.

Game 2

 Brookings 10, Watertown 4

The Bombers Maroon broke open a 2-1 game with eight runs in the fifth en route to completing the sweep.

Parker Winghart highlighted the big inning with a bases-clearing triple.

Brookings took advantage of 11 walks in the game.

Carter Wright added two RBIs, while Justin Cofell, Andrew Bishop, Rocklyn Dauphinias and Jaxton Eck contributed one apiece.

Tyson Brandt finished 2-for-3. Brandt and Nathan Lease both drew a pair of walks.

Winghart picked up the win on the mound, giving up four runs – three earned – on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts in six-plus innings. Brandt recorded the final three outs.
