Boy injured in collision with pickup

BRUCE – A boy was injured in a collision with a pickup at Oakwood Lakes State Park, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident was reported at 6:44 p.m. Friday at Oakwood Lakes State Park, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

The boy, 7, of Watertown, “was riding an electric scooter on a trail within the campground when he crossed a road. While doing this, he hit a pickup traveling an appropriate speed through the campground,” Sebring said.

Brian Boydston, 41, of Watertown, was driving a 2018 Ford F350 with a trailer, Sebring said.

“During this impact, the boy’s leg became pinned under the rear tire. The boy was transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance to be treated for unknown injuries. The boy was then transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital,” Sebring said.

The Ford sustained $1,700 in damage, he added.

The Bruce Fire Department also responded.

The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
