Boyce Smith, 94, of Brookings, died March 27, 2017, at the Brookings hospital.  

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Burial is at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings.

Boyce Eugene Smith was born on April 7, 1922, in Beresford to DeLoss and Cora (Masters) Smith.  He graduated from Beresford High School in 1940, and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Boyce married Jewell Lee “Julie” Brown on Dec. 25, 1943, in Washington, D.C.  

The couple lived and raised their family in Beresford. In 1968, he and Julie moved to Brookings, where he served as the finance officer for the city until his retirement in 1987. Boyce was a member of the Elks, El Riad Shrine, Masons, Lions Club, and the American Legion. 

He is survived by his three children: Ron (Bunny) Smith of Thonotosassa, Fla., Sandra (Larry) Franklin of Volga and Larry Smith of Brookings; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

His wife Julie, one grandson, and his sister and brother-in-law Chuck and Arvene (Smith) Carlson preceded him in death.
